Executive Functioning/ADHD
with Elizabeth Olson Psy.D., LCSW
December 11, 2020, 9am-1pm
Executive functioning issues are a significant struggle for many people. Knowing how to effectively understand and treat the disorders that are classified as an executive functioning problem can help you as a clinician to work more effectively with your clients. In this training, we will differentiate between the following diagnoses:
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Sluggish Cognitive Tempo/Concentration Deficit Disorder
Executive Functioning Disorder
You will learn specific strategies to help teens, young adults and parents develop better coping mechanisms in the home, at work and at school. We will discuss what strategies are most effective for each disorder, as well as strategies to help parents maintain their attachment and relationship with their child, teen or young adult. Drawing primarily from the work of Russell Barkley, we will discuss the importance of maintaining a positive parental relationship, how to do this, and strategies to help parents learn more about being an executive parent in a cooperative relationship with their kids. We will discuss what is most effective for adolescents in terms of learning to stay on task, organizing their lives, and following through with their goals to help them feel good about themselves and optimistic about their future.
