Intensive Therapeutic Team Support

CPW’s intensive treatment program provides multi-level therapeutic support. Our team is composed of highly skilled clinicians available to provide in-depth psychotherapy. Our community mentors and coaches collaborate with psychotherapists both within CPW as well as with other psychotherapists in the community. Our mentors build meaningful, supportive relationships with clients to help them successfully realize their therapeutic goals.

At the CPW intensive, team-based treatment program, we work with clients who have difficulty with:

  • Affect Regulation
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Substance Use
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Family Conflict
  • Executive Functioning Challenges
  • Social Anxiety
  • Self-Harm
  • Eating Disorders
  • Unstable Relationships
  • Digital Addiction

Clinical Psychological Services:

At CPW, our clinicians develop attuned, meaningful relationships with our clients. We provide intensive weekly individual psychotherapy as well as family therapy. Our treatment approach includes the exploration of unconscious, procedural patterns. These character and family patterns can cause difficulties with interpersonal relationships, self-esteem, academic success, and career pursuits. In both individual and family psychotherapy we work to disrupt destructive unconscious patterns that perpetuate dysregulation and difficulties for the client as well as dysfunction in the family system.

Developing a better understanding of one’s procedural patterns, as a client or a parent, creates opportunities for change. The self-understanding that emerges from this therapeutic process promotes increased compassion, kindness, and awareness without judgment towards oneself as well as others. Creating significant and meaningful in-depth change through effective psychological treatment improves self-esteem, the capacity for healthy boundaries, confidence, and an ability to make constructive, life generating choices. Our clients and their families become better emotionally regulated in their relationships. Clients indicate that they feel more comfortable and confident, capable of following through with their personal, academic and professional interests and goals.

If families live at a distance, we encourage weekly phone calls to discuss progress in treatment. We also offer parent coaching to assist parents with following through with boundaries and changing parenting approaches that may contribute to problems in the family system. At CPW, we actively engage with parents as primary collaborators in the treatment process. The parents’ perspective is a highly valuable contribution to the treatment process. Parents are an integral part of the team whether from a distance or locally.

Comprehensive Academic and Vocational Coaching:

Academic Coaching

Clients who engage in our intensive team-based treatment program often struggle with academic and career issues. Our clients sometimes have Attention-Deficit and Hyperactive disorders, Executive Functioning disorders, Learning Disabilities, and Autism spectrum difficulties. We work collaboratively with clients to engage them in academic support with local middle schools and high schools, Naropa University, Front Range Community College, the University of Colorado at Boulder and Denver, and The University of Denver, as well as other local colleges. Our college-oriented clients sometimes return to school after a gap year or an academic break by taking one or two courses at local community colleges or the Continuing Education Program at CU. These academic tracks allow students to gain confidence in their academic abilities and eventually engage as fully or partially matriculated students.

At CPW, we encourage clients to develop and build their own executive functioning capacities and personal strategies to cope effectively with school stressors and/or learning disabilities. Our coaches strategize and problem solve with clients to create individualized support plans to organize and follow through with academic expectations. Clients learn to access support services at their school, such as effectively engaging with disability services on campus and advocating for important academic accommodations.

These accommodations can include:
  • Encouraging teachers and professors to engage in universal design process (universal standards that support students with learning challenges)
  • Extended time on in-classroom and out-of-classroom assignments and exams
  • Proof reading assignment support
  • Note taking assistance
  • Recording lectures
  • Technology assistance programs for both exams, classroom time, and assignments

Our team coordinates care with psychologists for psychological testing and documentation of learning challenges, neurofeedback providers, as well as psychiatrists to provide the best standard of care approach toward academic success and independence. We support our clients to utilize academic support services that will give them equal access to success in their choice of learning environments.

Career Coaching

At CPW, we offer career support for either part or full time employment. Our coaches assist clients with resume writing, cover letter presentation, and interview skills. We support clients in job searching via online resources, temporary hiring agencies, and local employment opportunities. Our coaches role-play effective interview strategies and help clients feel confident and prepared to engage in the process of finding and sustaining employment.

Mentoring:

Our program emphasizes the importance of wellness in one’s life. We integrate DBT skills, psychotherapy, exercise, nutrition, and mindfulness practices into our treatment program. CPW mentors and psychotherapists help clients integrate therapeutic goals into real life action, especially for our clients who struggle with failure to launch difficulties. Our clients develop independent living skills by successfully engaging in school and work endeavors as well as learning to make healthy life choices and sustain meaningful relationships.

Our Mentors Work With Clients to Assist Them With:
Daily Living Support

Our mentors assist clients with organizing daily living tasks. Mentors collaborate with clients to help them grocery shop, budget, clean their apartments/rooms, and organize any logistical details that are difficult for them. We offer overnight respite care as a source of stability and extra support when needed.

Dialectical Behavior Skills Coaching

Our skills coaches help clients develop the ability to balance their emotional responses in stressful situations by using specific coping strategies. We use mindfulness techniques and many other behavioral skills in order to help our clients increase their ability to control destructive impulses. Typical behaviors that we work to modify include cutting, stealing, binging/purging, suicidal tendencies, yelling, angry outbursts, and substance abuse problems.

Health and Wellness

Therapy is most effective when balanced with skills and habits that support healthy living. We offer support with meal planning and nutritional awareness. Our mentors attend yoga classes, go hiking and go to the gym with clients. We work collaboratively with clients to create individualized exercise and mindfulness programs. We include exercise and mindfulness as integral parts of a therapeutic plan and we work creatively to integrate these skills into the daily lives of clients.

Sober Support Coaching/Mindful Substance Use Skills

We work with clients to decide how they will relate with substances in their lives. If they prefer to abstain from substances, we help clients with integrating 12 steps, mindfulness-based relapse prevention and/or dialectical behavior therapy skills training programs into their daily living routines. We also support families with setting up alcohol and drug monitoring programs through local agencies when needed. If clients want to use substances during treatment, we encourage a harm reduction approach that engages clients collaboratively to make safer, more conscious choices with use. Substance use is discussed openly and decisions regarding use and monitoring of use are made as a team that includes parents, clients, and CPW clinicians and coaches.
